We live in a modern digital age where technology plays the most important role in our lives. When it comes to Christmas celebrations and promotions, it is safe to say that they changed in the digital age in terms of that these promotions and celebrations aren’t so important as they were before to people. In fact, their religious and cultural significance is waning with each passing year. This world has become materialistic and secularized and there seem to be no interest for religious and cultural traditions.
The same goes for Christmas as it seems that it has lost the meaning it had before. This has become more than evident not just in the countries that are more technologically developed but rather all over the world. That is due to the fact that people have changed a lot and their transformation is characterized by nothing more than technology.
Such transformation leads our economy as well as the entire society to an altered version of reality where technology and the Internet are playing the leading roles and they basically run the world. The Internet and Information Communication Technology are constantly feeding people with auditory and visual content for their pleasure and entertainment. In return, the people transformed in terms of their outlook.
People avoid personal contact
Those golden days of hanging out with your friends are almost gone as that peculiar but fulfilling charm of hanging out with your friends seems to wither away. Today, people use social media and other digital platforms to state their opinions, share their feelings and thoughts. They are transposing their emotional reactions into a digital and ephemeral space.
You don’t have to go to a shop to buy something simply because you can buy it online with a few clicks of your mouse. You don’t have to go out to meet your friends in person as you can chat with them online or see them on Skype. The same goes for religious traditions such as Christmas.
Cultural Christmas promotion has almost but lost its value as people don’t seem to care for it the way they used to. That is due to the fact that today people are literally avoiding personal contact as it seems that it is much easier to do it online than in person. Such acting leads to solitude and isolation which further lead to complete alienation from friends and family.
